"This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men
to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." (1 Timothy
2:3, NIV)
These words tell us that we have a God who loves us and wants us
to know Him. We invite you to join us for Christ centered worship
at St. Jakobi.
"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only
Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal
life." (John 3:16, NIV)
Who Are We?
The members of St. Jakobi warmly welcome anyone who is new to the area, visiting on vacation, or a long-time resident to come visit on a Saturday evening or Sunday morning. They will find a friendly congregation that is ready to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the life that he has to give.
St. Jakobi Evangelical Lutheran Church has been known in the Shawano
community as "the Church in the Pines." Tall 70-foot white
pines have provided a picturesque setting for the church and parish
hall for many years. Located 3 miles north of Shawano on Hwy. 47
and a mile west on County Road A. Church services began as early
as the 1880's in a log church. Founding members each donated logs
for its construction. In 1908 the second church building was built
for $4,400. The current church building was dedicated on Reformation
Day, 2006. Many of our members are descendants of the early German
settlers, Jakobi is German for James. We are now a fellowship of
many people from different walks of life and varied backgrounds.
All of us are bound together by our common faith in Jesus Christ
as our Lord and Savior.
What Do We Believe?
We believe in the God who reveals Himself in the Bible as the only
God. He is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe that God created our world, and He made mankind in His
own image. Through the sin of our parents, Adam and Eve, we too
are sin filled people who have lost that special relationship God
intended for His children. We are now unable to obey God or return
to Him by our own power. Instead, our natural desire is to serve
ourselves instead of our Creator.
We believe God loves us in spite of our disobedience. In His love
He has sent His own Son into the world, to become a man to suffer
the penalty for our sins. For "God demonstrates His own love
toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for
us." (Romans 5:8)
We believe in Jesus Christ, both true God and true man, who lived
a perfect life on earth, who suffered and died in our place on the
cross, and who rose from the dead, proving for all time His victory
over sin and death.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who works in our lives through God's
Word, Holy Baptism, and Holy Communion. The Spirit gives us the
faith to believe Jesus Christ in our Lord and Savior.
St. Jakobi is a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
